In celebration of Recycling Week, the Plastics Industry Association (PLASTICS) has released a new video as part of the Recycling is Real advocacy campaign. The video highlights advanced recycling efforts taking place at Eastman in Kingsport, Tennessee.

The Plastics Industry Association (PLASTICS) has opened nominations for the Plastics Sustainability Innovation Awards, a program designed to honour pioneers advancing sustainability in plastics manufacturing. The awards "celebrate the bold and creative innovations that are making a tangible difference in our world, spotlighting achievements in sustainable design, materials innovation, and responsible end-of-life solutions".

The Plastics Industry Association (PLASTICS) will celebrate Recycling Week from November 11-15, highlighting the industry's commitment to advancing recycling efforts across the United States. This weeklong observance offers an opportunity to spotlight the progress, innovations, and partnerships driving a circular economy for plastics.

The cannabis industry is expanding due to newly legalized markets and the DEA's pivotal cannabis rescheduling announcement. AE Global (AEG) is championing eco-conscious packaging solutions through initiatives like Talk Trash, which addresses the global plastic crisis at the ground level. In a new initiative, AEG will manage all trash at this year's MJBizCon, a B2B cannabis industry event held December 3-6, 2024, in Las Vegas, and share how they "turn trash into treasure" through the company's recycling programs. Empowering the industry to take actionable steps toward sustainable packaging

The Recycling Partnership's Polypropylene Recycling Coalition has released its inaugural annual report highlighting measurable improvements in the circularity of polypropylene (PP). Established in 2020, the Coalition awards grants to materials recovery facilities (MRFs), secondary sorters, and reclaimers to increase acceptance, improve capture, and deliver higher-quality recycled polypropylene to responsible end markets. Since its inception, the Coalition has allocated over $15 million across 60 grants, resulting in new or improved polypropylene recycling access to 48 million people.

Recyclers worldwide are expressing concern about the slow progress on the Global Plastics Treaty promoted by the United Nations. During discussions at the Singapore Convention of the Bureau of International Recycling (BIR), attendees raised complaints that "low-ambition" countries were hindering progress toward a legally binding agreement, and that petrochemical plastics producers are lobbying to exempt themselves from regulations considering the full life cycle of plastics.

NPE2024 achieved its goal of repurposing 100 percent of the plastics it collected at the show. The video features NPE's recycling partners, Conair Group, Commercial Plastics Recycling, and WEIMA.

NPE2024: The Plastics Show has released final recycling data from the recycling efforts carried out at the trade show.  In partnership with Commercial Plastics Recycling, Inc., Conair, and WEIMA, NPE successfully repurposed 100 percent of the materials collected during the event. This effort resulted in the recycling of 516,160 pounds of plastics, cardboard, and aluminum.

In order to ensure automotive circularity and to preserve the EU plastics recycling industry, EuRIC has called on legislators to maintain "a high level of ambition, and bring forward recycled content targets for plastics in vehicles".
